No one hurt after school bus rolls onto its side

READ MORE:

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Highway Patrol says no one was seriously hurt when a Pender County school bus rolled onto its side. It happened just after 7 a.m. on NC 210 near Old Plantation Road east of Rocky Point.

Investigators say only the driver and her child were on the bus. A school district spokeswoman says the child was a Cape Fear Elementary School student and that the bus serves that school and Cape Fear Middle School.

A trooper at the scene said bus went off the right side of the road and hit bricks lining a driveway. The bus then ran into a ditch before toppling over. It took two tow trucks to get the bus back upright. Troopers say the driver is charged with failure to maintain lane control.

The school district says a different bus ran the morning route, and this afternoon's bus route will run at a normal time.

Deeper issue

I believe if WWAY did more research on this accident they may find a deeper issue. At least once a week, parents of CFES and CFMS receive an early morning phone call alerting parents of a delayed bus. Many of the calls report "trying to find a driver," "bus (#) will also run the route for bus (#),"bus (#) is broke down." Not sure if it is due to the ability to discipline the drivers because of lack of drivers.

Eye witness

I was travelling on 210 when this happened. That bus was speeding, which at the time I thought was weird, because they're usually creeping along the road 10-15 miles below the speed limit. I wasn't surprised to see it tip over. Glad no one was hurt.

Such nasty comments

It's great to see how many people have so much time on their hands to make nasty comments about something they know nothing about.

Maybe the bus was trying to turn around and hit some soft, swampy ground and the bus slowly sunk and turned on it's side.

Know the facts before you make such snide comments, or maybe you should drive a bus on 210 yourselves.

you get what you pay for

Bus driver pay .....well you get what you pay for.
I'm sure there are many experienced drivers who could "keep it between the lines" that are looking for full time employment.

Classes for bus drivers are

Classes for bus drivers are announced and held on a regular basis. Where are these experienced drivers who are looking for employment?

Accident

Maybe I missed something but where in the article did it say that the driver was inexperienced? You people really amaze me at your stupid comments. Do you really think before you even speak?

Hmmmmm

I would venture to say that an experienced driver wouldn't veer off the road and hit bricks lining a driveway, hitting a ditch and toppling over on their side.... Maybe with the other horrible drivers in New Hanover, Pender, and Brunswick counties, it should be expected, even of an experienced driver.

PEOPLE SPEAK OF HORRIBLE

PEOPLE SPEAK OF HORRIBLE DRIVERS IN OUR AREA. DO YOU REALIZE OR KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE LIVE HERE THAT ARE FROM OUT OF THE AREA THAT ARE USE TO DRIVING IN BIGGER AREAS AND ARE IN A HURRY TO GET NOWHERE? I HAD A MAN FROM OUT OF STATE IN A STRAIGHT LANE MAKE A LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF ME AT MONKEY JUNCTION ONTO CAROLINA BEACH ROAD. ALL HORRIBLE DFRIVERS AREN'T FROM HERE. SOME ARE IMPORTED, AND THEY ARE WELCOME HERE TO. WE HAVE TO LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER.

pay is no excuse

I am a driver in the same county while it would be nice for all to get full time status it does not mean we all go wrecking bus because of our pay grade. In future you should know we make more than most of you who work 40 hours a week at hard labor jobs. If she was full time making $50 a hour it would not matter, if you can not drive you just can not drive.

Alright, who's the wiseguy....

...that removed the training wheels before this driver left the lot?

Nap time

The bus is just taking a nap.
