WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A valued member of our newsroom family is leaving next week to spend more time with her own family.

Ashley Jacobs, who has co-anchored "Good Morning Carolina" with Tim Buckley the last year, has decided to hop out of broadcasting for a bit to focus on her two young children.

For the past twelve months, Ashley has gotten up in the middle of the night, driven to the station from Onslow County, anchored the newscast, and then driven all the way back - never missing a beat. (Except the morning she called me around 4 a.m. to tell me she had hit a deer)

Ashley is also married to an active duty Marine, so you can imagine how busy her life is.

She and Tim brought tremendous energy and chemistry to GMC. It's hard to give up someone so good, but I also believe with all my heart that family comes first.

While we look for her replacement, we're lucky to have Randy "to the Rescue" Aldridge filling in for us. While he has spent most of his career in interior design, Randy actually has a journalism degree from UNC, and he tells me he's excited to finally put it to work.

We wish Ashley and her family all the best. Thank you, Ashley, for all you brought to the station. You will be missed.

Great, we got it. Maybe you could stop pushing this up the news list? Its getting old at this point.

We have watched at least part of GMC almost every morning since the first time we saw your smiling face. You and Tim were a great team. You will be hard to replace. Thank you.

Ashley's not the only one going.
Rob Ellis over at WECT is leaving for a TV Station in Indianapolis I believe.
I have never watched GMC and have no intentions to as I don't watch TV until night time anyway....
Good Luck Ashley, and Rob.......

So sad to see this, I; like everyone else love your upbeat attitude early in the morning, sorry Randy but you are gonna put me back to sleep....we need happy!

Good luck to you, being a single mom, I know the struggle of having to do it on your own, which being married to military thats pretty much what you are faced with, both sacrificing alot.

We call Ashley "twinkle eyes" because she is so spirited and beautiful. She and Tim have such great chemistry. Hope she comes back to WWAY in the future.

Seeing your smiling face and cheerful attitude each morning always got me off to a good start. Enjoy these last few days. Enjoy your family. I'm sure you will be back on the air in the future. You were born for it! Thank you!!

She will be missed, but is doing the right thing for her family. I had no idea she lived in Onslow County and had that long drive in the wee hours and then back. Best of luck to you Ashley, we will miss your bright and cheery persona (love the shorter haircut you got a while back)!!
