WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Members of the North Carolina Bar Association across the state are spending the day on the phone trying to help.
Volunteer attorneys are offering free legal advice to anyone who calls in until 7:30 p.m. Their goal is to try and answer questions and offer guidance to people who may be hesitant to talk with a lawyer.
Volunteers say they have a commitment to public service... And this is one way to give back to the community.
"A lot of folks may be on the line on whether they should talk to an attorney or just let it go," attorney Andy McVey said. "They may be more prone not to call an attorney until they see there is this free call-in day in the newspaper. So hopefully we are reaching some of those folks who otherwise would be reluctant to call and attorney."
More than 2,500 calls came in by lunchtime.
