WILMINGTON, NC (StarNewsOnline.com) --A Wilmington woman was sentenced Friday to life with parole after 25 years for a 2006 murder. A change in state law last summer made it cruel and unusual punishment to sentence a juvenile to life without parole – originally handed down to the 17-year-old killer in 2008.
Lakendra Grady, now 24, could eventually be released from prison in the January 2006 shooting death of Pervis Owens, 24.
Grady was just four months shy of her 18th birthday when she plotted with four others to rob Owens, her friend.
