McSwain steps down as Ashley hoops coach

WILMINGTON, NC (news release from Ashley AD Roy Turner) -- Bryn McSwain, Head Basketball coach at Ashley High School has resigned as basketball coach to spend more time with his family and pursue his gradute degeree. Scott Martin and Erik Holley will serve as interim coaches until the position is filled.

"After five years of hard work and a season of firsts; in-county wins, conference wins, NCHSAA wins and a winning season, all we can say is thank you. Bryn has played and important role in the development of our basketball program. I want to thank him for his service to our athletes and the effort he has invested in the men's basketball program. I wish the best to Bryn and his family in all future endeavors."

We will start our search immediately to find the right person to continue our quest for excellence.

Under Bryan McSwain the Screaming Eagles made the state playoffs two of their last three seasons. The Ashley first round state playoff win over New Hanover in late February was the first playoff win in the history of Ashley boys basketball. Ashley finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 17-9 record.
