SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) -- The North Carolina Baptist Men and Women held disaster drills this weekend at the Southport Baptist Church. The organization's goal is to help victims of natural disasters get back into their homes and build their lives again.
The group trains people to use tools essential to fixing structures through various exercises. Participants also learn about ways to successfully feed thousands of people.
"Now, the skills that we have range from chainsaw operation all the way to feeding and childcare," said Drill Manager Bill Martin. "A person can take their skills and talents and put it to use to help someone."
About 350 people registered for training this weekend. Over 10,000 people are trained in disaster relief state-wide through the NC Baptist Men and Women group.
