RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- Gov. Pat McCrory's first two-year budget proposal for North Caroilna state government is heavy on setting aside money for emergencies, building repairs and Medicaid and light on creating new programs.

McCrory on Wednesday unveiled his spending plan to take effect July 1 through mid-2015. It provides $400 million for the state's rainy day fund, $300 million for state building renovations and $180 million to deal with potential Medicaid shortfalls.

The new Republican governor wants $2.7 million to rebrand and retool the state's economic development strategy and $2 million to consider government reorganization. But he offered no big signature initiative.

McCrory says the proposal is about fixing recent cracks in the state's fiscal foundation so that more money can be allocated later to education and other efforts that will create jobs.

Cutting out pork, and making

Cutting out pork, and making a lot of enemies. But he is doing what it takes to keep NC afloat. He's killing the welfare state, and bringing back, old fashioned values. I'm gonna keep a eye on this guy. I believe he may be the next president, in 3/7 years.

Isn't this the guy that

Isn't this the guy that wants the word "Education" removed from the NC lottery program? I thunk so.

"McCrory says the proposal is about fixing recent cracks in the state's fiscal foundation so that more money can be allocated later to education and other efforts that will create jobs."

Wait a minute...he wants to remove the word Education doesn't he? Or is that "Education" word's meaning for his staff on how to Blow tax $$$ from the lottery on projects that we will read about down the road..."That Have Failed". Then he will later get voted out...and you will get another Hanky Panky politician with "Only" money in their sites?

Heads Up!

Oh I see what this is about- HE "wants $2.7 million to rebrand and retool the state's economic development strategy" meaning there is a crony consultant waiting in the wings waiting for the 2.7 million and then HE wants "$2 million to consider government reorganization" which is corporate speak for reducing services and cutting positions. "Reorganization" is never about providing service. Its always about cutting personnel.

Still spending more

$400M more than Smileys last budget.

he's counting on increased revenues, which is a dangerous thing to do as our history shows.
Spending $400M more after cutting over $135M from UNC.

No tax revamp in his budget either
Some rhetoric about economic development (Just like his predecessor).

A good budget, but overly optimistic IMHO

Vog

When i read the article it

When i read the article it says 400 million in reserve for rainy days. How is that a dangerous thing if it is a reserve the money should not even be spent yet.At least he is trying thats more than we normally get. I have no problem with cuts from these colleges to much waste going on and wrong agendas squandering my tax money, just like the new boat for marine tecs hopefully he will stick to that cut also.
