UPDATE: Pedestrian hit ran into traffic, driver faces no charges

READ MORE:

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A pedestrian who was hit by a car on Carolina Beach Road in Monkey Junction Tuesday night was reportedly impaired when he ran into traffic.

According to troopers, the driver will not face any charges in the accident.

Trooper Lewis tells us as the vehicle was traveling on Carolina Beach Rd., a man ran across the lanes and into traffic. That's when the man on foot was struck in the middle of the road.

The driver was not injured, but troopers on the scene said the pedestrian suffered from physical injuries, though they did not seem to be life threatening.

The man hit was taken to hospital, but there is no word yet on his identity, or on his condition.

typical

I crossed on Wrightsville the other day (on the crosswalk although I hadn't pushed the button). A truck was far enough away that I should have had plenty of time to cross but he sped up right at me, forcing me to run. I suppose that driver wouldn't have received a citation either in this crazy town where it seems to be open season on pedestrians while the cops look the other way.

Why?

Why didn't you push the button and wait?

that's the ironic thing...

I didn't because I didn't want to inconvenience motorists who have to then sit there and wait forever while I'm long gone across the street. But when I saw what sociopaths I was dealing with, you can bet I laugh at their inconvenience now. I have no sympathy for them anymore and thank you for confirming what ugly, selfish personalities they are. They are obviously not alone by any stretch.

WOW...seriously??!?

So...your argument seems to be that it's okay for YOU to break the rules, but WHOA when it comes to a point where you have to take responsibility for your actions.

The crosswalk button is in place for a reason. It's there to give pedestrians the opportunity to cross a street with traffic stopped. If you choose to ignore that safeguard, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU. If you want to play the equivalent of Russian Roulette when you cross a street, you need to be prepared for the possibility that your number could be up and you may very well wind up with a bullet in your questionable brain.

IF YOU DIDEN'T PUSH THE

IF YOU DIDEN'T PUSH THE BUTTON AND WAIT FOR THE TRAFFIC, WHY DID YOU EXPECT THE TRAFFIC TO WAIT FOR YOU? HE MAY NOT HAVE EVEN SEEN YOU. IF YOU THINK THIS IS A CRAZY TOWN BECAUSE OF YOUR THOUGHTLESSNESS, THEN LEAVE. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH COPS LOOKING THE OTHER WAY.

Are you sure you were not

Are you sure you were not taking your own sweet time so that the truck would have to slow down? Guess you got a little unplanned jogging in, didn't you?

said four motorists

who would sooner cut a dollar out of your pocket while you lay dying on the street than help you.
