Deputy fire chief charged with embezzling

JACKSONVILLE, NC (AP) -- A deputy chief at the North Topsail Beach Fire Department has been charged with embezzling more than $60,000.

The Daily News of Jacksonville reports that 48-year-old George Frederick Moore, III, was charged Thursday by the state Department of Insurance Criminal Investigation unit with four counts of embezzlement.

Warrants state Moore took $61,000 belonging to the department and the Local Firefighters Relief Fund between 2009 and last year.

Moore served as treasurer and trustee of the relief fund. He is free on $40,000 bond. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Why the hostility?

Why is this e-mail thread just oozing with sarcasm and hostility? The fire guy is a crook, he was caught, so fire him and send him to the slammer for 10 years. Case closed.

This situation shows why...

there should be more than one person signing checks or not in total control of the funds.

Not the current deputy fire chief

This is somewhat in error as Mr. Moore has not been employed by NTB for several months.

It was never stated

he is with the Department.

It did state the alleged incidents transpired between 2009 and 2012.

Helps if you read everything.

On the other hand, if one is going to embezel money,it should be of a sufficient amount, you can get it out of the country and to a warm locale from which you can be neither barred from entry or subject to extradition; and where your money is safe from confiscation by some third world dictator.

If you're going to atke another's money, and you're not in local, state, or national government, think Big.

Comprehending is Cool Too

Put some effort into comprehension while you "read everything".

The headline did not state; "Former Chief Deputy", the first paragraph was pretty clear in it's statement too. At least, that's what most would comprehend.

Kinda' like saying; "Why do you think the Fairgrounds announced no more gun shows."

Read, comprehend...and THEN comment.

I did read it

Right at the start the article states:

"A deputy chief at the North Topsail Beach Fire Department..."

That is not rue. He has not been w/ NTB for several months.

As you stated, it would help if YOU read the article.

Did you read it? The first sentence states, "A deputy chief at the North Topsail Beach Fire Department..." The headline even states it.

"A deputy chief at the North

"A deputy chief at the North Topsail Beach Fire Department has been charged with embezzling more than $60,000."

How else do are you supposed to read this?
