FIRST ON 3: Firefighter OK after being hit by car

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A New Hanover County firefighter was injured while responding to a fire this morning, according to New Hanover County Dispatch.

A supervisor says crews were responding to a call at 2608 N. College Road when the firefighter was hit by a car. Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Jerry Brewer says the firefighter suffered only very minor injuries. He says Highway Patrol stopped the car that hit the firefighter. There's no word yet on any charges.

Investigators say crews were responding to a fire at a vacant home that had also been broken into when the accident happened.
