WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A Wilmington salon joins forces with an international organization in an effort to set a world record, all to raise funds for clean water.

Hypnotix Spalon is teaming up with Aveda for a global cut-a-thon on Earth Day to attempt the world record for the most money raised for hair cuts in a 24-hour period.

All of the money raised nationally during the event will go to clean water initiatives, and money raised in the Port City will go to the Surfrider Foundation's Cape Fear Chapter.

100% of the proceeds from appointments and walk-ins at the salon will go straight to the charity.

The Earth Day event will go on Monday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 1403 Audubon Drive in Wilmington.
