Man accused of shooting ex-girlfriend in Georgia arrested in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A man wanted for allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend in Georgia has been arrested in Wilmington.

A US Marshals Service spokesman says marshals and Wilmington Police arrested Matthew Terry, 42, Thursday night at Cypress Grove Apartments in Wilmington.

The Sandy Springs Police Department in Georgia wanted Terry for aggravated assault, burglary and possessing a firearm during the commission of a crime. Police say Terry shot his 38-year-old ex-girlfriend multiple times in her apartment March 24 then left in her car.

Terry was due in court today. Sandy Springs Police did not immediately return a call for comment.

Wilmington Police say according to Sandy Spring Police, Terry shot the mother of his two children in front of 17-year-old daughter and his four-year-old son on the front steps of the apartment complex.

WPD says a tip led them and US Marshals Fugitive Task Force to Terry. After a brief attempt to elude officers, police say WPD K-9 units caught Terry.

He is in jail awaiting extradition to Georgia.

Weren't there signs that

Weren't there signs that this guy was a jerk?
Didn't the woman even notice? She has to be honest with herself.
She put her kids at risk.

Putting children at risk

To the person that feels I need to take some kind of "ownership" in the actions that this man took against my life, I'm curious just how YOU feel that should've been done? This man did not live here. He is the father of both of my children and as soon as I saw a change in the relationship that was not conducive for myself or my children I picked up myself and my children and relocated from NY where we resided with him and moved here to GA. This man unwilling to move on, drove down here.He broke into my apartment, and as me and my children returned home I was ambushed by him as he hid in my residence. Did I knowingly place myself or my children in harms way? Absolutely not. Was there anyway of me knowing that a man that had shown only affection towards his children, that he would snap and cause his kids a lifetime of pain and anguish, absolutely not. So to have someone think that I should take any kind of ownership over a crazy or unstable mans actions is absurd! No he did not show signs of being a potential murderer. But as a mother I removed my children from what I deemed as unhealthy and HE followed! So as far as me taking responsibility for putting my children at danger, that I will not own!
