Black bear found dead on roadside in Brunswick Co.

BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WWAY) -- A black bear was found dead on the side of Highway 87 near South Brunswick High School Wednesday morning.

Witnesses say a vehicle hit the bear some time Tuesday night, ultimately killing it. DOT workers arrived on the scene around 8 a.m. to remove the bear from the roadside.

They say they rarely see or get calls about bears of any kind in the area.

Crews say they will bury the bear after they move it from the side of the road.
