WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington Police say a couple of good neighbors helped them to arrest a man for stealing a woman's purse last night.

Police say the woman's neighbor told her she had seen someone reach into the victim's car window and steal her purse around 6:15 p.m. in the 4600 block McClelland Drive. The friend provided a description, and the victim spotted a man who matched the description. She chased him, but lost sight of him.

A second friend drove around in his truck and spotted the suspect behind some dumpsters. Police say the friend convinced the suspect to get in the truck with him and direct him to where he had dropped the purse. When they found it, the suspect took off.

WPD officers and a K9 set up a perimeter and caught Joshua Edward Askel, 25, who one of the witnesses later positively identified as the suspect.

Askel is charged with breaking and entering auto and larceny. He is in custody under $10,000 bond.
