Nearly 200 Canadians stranded in Wilmington after flight diverted

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Nearly 200 Canadians have been stranded in Wilmington for almost 24 hours.

The group was on the way to Montreal when a medical emergency diverted their plane to Wilmington International Airport.

Alain Lavoie was headed home from the Caribbean island of St. Maarten. He's remained in good spirits and says he's blown away by the southern hospitality.

"The staff on duty and the volunteers here were amazing," he said. "This morning, they brought us food, drinks and chairs. They were always willing to help us if we had any questions.

The group stayed at a Wilmington hotel last night. They were set to fly out this evening and should arrive in Montreal by seven.

And in other news .......

Entire population of Wilmington stranded by lack of adequate leadership.

I'm glad they enjoyed their

I'm glad they enjoyed their stay in spite of the circumstances, eh.

Thank You Wilmington

I was on this flight on my way back to Montreal. Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to the people of Wilmington for their hospitality and generosity. A special thank you to Pierrette, Adam and Ryan at the Holiday Inn Express University Center who went above and beyond to make our unfortunate situation a memorable one.

SOME PEOPLE JUST CAN'T HELP

SOME PEOPLE JUST CAN'T HELP BEING SARCASTIC A BOUT A SIMPLE STORY, CAN YOU? EVEN WHILE THEY READ OF ALL THE CRIME HERE, THEY WERE TREATED WITH KINDNESS AND RESPECT. BUT YOU CAN ONLY SEE THE NEGATIVE SIDE. SAD.

With all respect to the

With all respect to the medical emergency...our City Council wants to know..."How much did each visitor spend while they were here?"

I love Montreal

I met one of the stranded couples at a cafe on the Riverwalk. They were very appreciative of the courtesy and hospitality of everyone. It has been over 10 years since I haven been to Montreal. The friendliness and hospitality there was among the best I have ever experienced. It is like going to Paris without the often rude Parisian attitude.

Imagine

A Canadian sitting in ILM Airport reading the local paper to pass the time:
Fathers having sex with their daughters.......
Police and firemen have sex with under aged girls forced into prostitution..
County Commissioner being force-ably removed from office for being crazy...
Drownings......
Stabbings.......
Shootings.......
And the local University cancelling sports programs......

If it were me and the plane didn't take off immediately? I woulda started walking to Canada....

Since you obviously don't feel safe here, and never have anything good to say about Wilmington or anything else for that matter.Maybe you start walking now.

Actually Guest X

I like it here however, like many cities Wilmington is trying to be something its not.
Do I feel safe here? absolutely.
Do I feel there are mistakes that have been made and are being made now? Yeah that too.
Thats politics in small city government.
But there are good things here.
But on THAT particular day, when that plane arrived? The headlines weren't that good.
But we did make them feel welcomed which goes MUCH further than any tourist agency could do.

And

with no taxpayer funded incentives.

"Where Did We Land...Once Again???"

If they would have read those types of headlines you mentioned while delayed...and by any chance were headed to Newark,NJ as their final destination...they would have stood up...shook their head in confusion...then stepped outside and got into a taxi to go to Turdy Turd and Turd Ave, Newark South!!!!
Speaking for City Council...I do wonder myself, how much "DID" these passengers spend whilst here in Wilmywood???

No News

If they had been stuck, in Newark, their ordeal would not have been news worthy. I'm not complaining. I would, much, rather see the local media REPORTING on this than see the, usual, "cutting and pasting" from other publications in order to have SOMETHING on the website.

Wilmington Observer

Should have kept them and

Should have kept them and took them bar-hopping tonight. Run them by the Convention Center and maybe they would want to invest in a new hotel close by.

Timekeeper

What a great idea!
Then the CC sales staff can advertise the CC as an international meeting place!!
Bring them all in in groups of 50 and you've got 4 "events" with international proportions.......
I am glad they had a decent time here - what a thing to have happen eh? Diverted to strange place, on an emergency basis....
