'Friends of Fort Fisher' unveil the newest addition to Fort Fisher State Historic Site

KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- The 'Friends of Fort Fisher' organization unveiled their newest onsite exhibit at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site.

The exhibit features a replica of the most powerful weapon used by confederates when they defended the fort during the Civil War.

Rod Gragg, a Civil War writer says the Armstrong Rifled cannon is the great secret weapon of its day.

"It's extremely important historically, but also because it really is a sight that showcases American courage and sacrifice," he says.

The original cannon was a gift given to the fort from the Queen of England during the American Civil War.

Gragg says receiving this cannon is a milestone for the organization, and they can't wait to show it off.

Gift from the Queen of England?

Not so sure that's correct. Where did you come up with that?

Several days later and still no response

Nice reporting job.
