BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A Brunswick County man is in jail charged with rape, kidnapping and assault. A sheriff's spokeswoman says Richard Teremaine Gore turned himself in Friday.

According to arrest warrants, Gore, 30, of Marlow Road in Ash, is accused of kidnapping and raping a woman Wednesday. The warrants say Gore choked "her until she lost consciousness and left bruises around her neck area by strangulation by putting his hands around her neck." The warrants also accuse Gore of hitting the alleged victim in the head and biting her fingers and nose.

Gore made his first court appearance this morning. The sheriff's office says a judge set his bond at $1 million because of the seriousness of the crime.
