Suspect takes off, deputy shoots and kills dog

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Brunswick County deputies are looking for a man who ran after they tried to serve warrants and wound up killing his dog.

Investigators say Tyler Gray Hughes, 21, took off into the woods when they tried to serve the warrants at 375 High Hills Drive in Shallotte this afternoon. That's when they say his pit bull "Beast" charged Dep. Andrew Lentz, who fired two shots and killed the dog.

Deputies could not find Hughes.

He is wanted for multiple felonies, including two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of larceny and larceny of a firearm.

The shooting of the dog is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office of Professional Standards.

As with any case most dogs

As with any case most dogs are going to protect their owner when someone is coming after them. That was not the dogs fault, he was only following instinct. I know the guy put his dog in this situation but would they shoot someones son if they came after them?

Probably not...but then

Probably not...but then someones son would not latch onto a officers leg or arm and rip him to shreds. Quit being a idiot.
