ONLY ON 3 UPDATE: WHA finally gets tree off home

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- One day after Vesta Village residents called WWAY about a tree limb that had fallen on a home blocking the doorway, they finally got some results.

This morning contractors showed up at the home on Colwell Drive and removed the limb that had been on the home since June 8.

The woman who lives there does not want to show her face for fear of reprisal from the Wilmington Housing Authority, but she said she knows who to call for results.

"Thank you so much for assisting us, because the tree has been down for two weeks," she said. "You got done in less than 24 hours what I couldn't get done in two weeks. I just want to thank you guys so much, because you really did help. My older boys were ecstatic when they came out of the front door and it was gone, but they're still waiting on the basketball goal, so hopefully that won't take too much longer."

At the next Vesta Village residents meeting, the WHA will discuss replacing a basketball goal for kids its crews tore down.

Root Problem

If the Goal in question was stolen then none of this would be an issue. WHY you ask.... Well it would not be there to be removed... I am sure it will be replaced with another one, that will be stolen too....

Seriously?

I look at that video and, to emulate those in the hood, I am just SMDH.

You mean to tell me they don't know ONE PERSON IN THE ENTIRE WORLD that has a hand/buck saw?

Sure, the bigger part of the limb may have taken a chainsaw, but those spindly little branches laying across the side walk were an inch thick. Don't your boys know how to whittle?

This speaks volumes about those folks. I am ashamed for them. Do you want the tax payers to clean your windows, too?

Every negative stereotype starts with a kernel of truth.

Bet you a dollar to a donut

Bet you a dollar to a donut that if the limb had been blocking the basketball goal instead of a doorway, no help from the city would have been needed to remove it.

Funny how ....

Funny how such a self-entitled community demands prompt action when they so desire, yet doesn't give anything back to the community when others are in need ... Take take take ..!!

WHA Sympathizer

Oh yeah that's real self-entitled wanting a big tree moved blocking your front door.

These are tenants not owners so they did as any tenant would they called the people in charge to move it just as I would do if I was a tenant.

You go buy your own property yes it is your responsibility.

It is not self-entitled to want those who's jobs it is to remove a tree to do their job period.

If my ceiling caved in in an apartment I am renting I would be a fool
go and buy all the supplies to fix the ceiling and start working on it the best way I could and neither would any landlord with a lick of sense expect me to.

I've heard it criticized that they put up a basketball goal without authorization yet they criticize that they should of come together with their own resources as low income tenants and remove the tree even though that is WHA's job and responsibility.

So what do they get for following policy reporting the tree problem delays on getting tree removed but prompt removal of the basketball goal (passive aggressive).

I hope you all enjoyed this little logic lesson I hope it helps although I think we have some sort of gas leaks around town that are affecting certain peoples brain cells.

One more thing I believe I see the poorest of poor people help each other out all the time.

Like Jesus said their will always be poor and the struggling and remove the two by four out of your own eye before you start trying to criticize you neighbor who you don't even know. There are alot of good people and law abiding people in public housing who are just trying to survive despite being victimized by criminals who may go there and housing authority who bully them with intimidation doing passive aggressive stunts like removing a basketball goal.

You know I think there needs to be an investigation into who made that decision and put on probation or removed. I think they should change the name to Wilmington Housing Service instead of Authority because I think they get the idea that they own all the public housing instead of being charged with managing, maintaining it and being a service to the tenants as any Property Management Company is required to do.

The difference between you

The difference between you and those that are living in that neighborhood is that you live on your dime, they live on ours. I see someone need help from time to time, but making a lifetime of it is a different story. And when the taxpayer is the one who pays the piper, then we have a right to judge where our money goes and those who receive it. And if they don't like how the WHA handles things, then they need to do like you and I do and find a job and pay for their own housing.

The giving spoken of in the Bible is directed at Christians to willingly give of their money and time to help others, not being forced to give our money to the government, who then doles it out as they see fit.

I suppose ....

I suppose if you were a tenant, you would also erect a basketball goal on your landlord's property, without permission, right? That IS, after all, the basis of this problem (though your 'passive aggressive' argument was quite entertaining to read).

Glad

Glad this "branch" of the WHA went out on a "limb" and took care of the "root" problem. Now residents won't "bark" at them as they "branch" out from the housing project.
Hey - it's WEds - yah know?
People need a tree chuckle - even if it's from an "Ash" hole or a son of a "Beech" depending upon your point of view.
I guess I should "leaf" now

Vog

Vog, just curious. Have you

Vog, just curious. Have you ever thought of golf or fishing to take up some of your time? :)

I garden

Up at 5:30am garden for hour hour and a half to 2 hours.
Breakfast errands etc
Some days I have more time than others.
Got roses in the front, vegetable garden in the back.
The knees are bad but I muddle along.
On cloudy rainy days I'll be here more often than not as things are growing so I'm just maintaining.......

Golf? Tried it a couple of times. I enjoyed the outdoors and the cart took pressure off the knees but I can see how people get frustrated by the game.
I tend to my investments and try to keep up with the goings on of Wilmington, NH County and NC in general and attend city county meetings when the impulse hits me to. I take a course at UNCW now and again.
The Mrs has threatened to talk to someone about pushing me to run for a government office as I am always looking up something about city or county government.
Then at the end of the day I garden some more, water if I have to.
Then its bed before 11.
Rinse and repeat......Church on weekends, and try to read a passage or two every night.
I am intensely interested in local events and I know that for every action there's usually a reaction..............
I am old enough to be everyones grand dad but I wouldn't wish that on anyone....but being older means I don't care what people think of me posting here. No insult to you by the way......

Vog

I tell people that as

I tell people that as horrible as I feel now, I hate to thing of what it will be when I am a senior citizen.

I do admire your ability to garden. I have the blackest thumb that God ever made. How many people do you know who have killed both a snake plant and a cactus? If I had a line of plants on the shelf, it would be called death row.
