9 taken to hospital after bus, tractor-trailer collide in Columbus County

BOLTON, NC (WWAY) -- Nine people have been taken to the hospital after a tour bus carrying students and a tractor-trailer collided on US 74/76 near Bolton in Columbus County.

The students are from the Cannon School in Concord. No word on the extent of the injuries suffered by the students taken to the hospital. The remaining students are at First Baptist Church in Whiteville for the night. The tour bus operator said the students were on their way to Fort Caswell at Oak Island.

Highway Patrol says the bus was turning from NC 214 to US 74/76 when the 18-wheeler clipped it. Our crew on the scene says it appears there is some damage to the left rear of the bus. The semi, which was puling an empty trailer, has front-end damage.
