Soldier charged with assaulting Marine, woman at Surf City bar

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) -- A Fort Bragg soldier is out of jail after being charged with assaulting a Marine and a woman earlier this month at a Surf City bar.

Surf City Police Department say with the help of NCIS and Army CID they arrested PFC Joseph Bruce Henry, 20, of Riverside, NJ, for assault inflicting serious bodily injury and assault on a female. Henry was taken into custody at Ft. Bragg.

Investigators say on May 11 Henry assaulted a 25-year-old Marine at the Sandbar Saloon breaking the Marine's jaw and knocking out numerous teeth requiring surgery. Investigators say Henry also assaulted a woman who was with the Marine.

Police also released surveillance video from the bar that shows a second man who is wanted in connection with the crime. They say they know who he is, but they are waiting until he comes back from deployment next week before releasing his name.

Henry is out of the Onslow County Jail under $30,000 secured bond.

he beat up a marine. military guys fight. next time a marine or sailor may beat him up. we also don't know the whole story, its possible the marine started it (that never happens right) & this soldier squared his jaw and teeth away. he needs to be punished, but it would be unfair to train a young man for aggressive behavior and then kick him out of the military when he acts on it. hope the marines ok & i doubt he really assaulted the woman, thats probably hyperbole. again, military guys get in fights all the time, this is a big deal because this happened to occur on the marines home turf.

this is a double sided sword, on one hand you take a young man and turn him into a lean, mean, fighting machine, so that he will lay down his life fighting for his country and brothers in a strange and foreign land but yet when he is at home he is expected to turn it off and be a member of society. It is unfortunate but we have to find a way to work with our vets and fit them back into society.

great now they understand why most bars here in wilm dont want them . they nothing but trouble . they think they are a bad ass.

Little punk isn't even old enough to be in a bar in the first place, much less drinking. This'll do wonders for his military career!

And once again the fake name, KEY BOARD Tough Guys come out. What ever your name really is, you are no better than the guy in the story. You just make sure your at your safe key board before you pick a fight.

There is one very tiny difference though: The poster didn't commit a physical assault on two other people, one of which was a female. Too bad you're incapable of seeing that difference.

Speaking of hiding behind keyboards and tough guys: Unless you're the only Leroy on the planet, you're pretty anonymous as well, and the only tough guy I saw hiding behind a keyboard was you with the implied threat in your last sentence.

Just saying ...

Most likely a BCD or dishonorable discharge awaits him. Great thing to appear on one's DD-214.
