Six employees of the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office have resigned from their posts following an internal investigation.
Sheriff Alan Jones hasn't identified the six workers, and said he won't go into detail about the focus of the investigation or what it revealed. The News-Topic of Lenoir reported that the probe linked the sheriff's office to an incident at another agency, leading to the resignations.

Authorities have charged two people after they say a 2-year-old child was beaten and sexually assaulted at a babysitter's house in Tarboro.
The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office said 41-year-old Cirilo Torido-Bastida of Macclesfield faces two counts of forcible sex offense and one count of assault inflicting serious bodily injury. He is jailed under an $855,000 secured bond.

Pilot Mountain State Park is reopening after a fire this month that burned about 675 acres.
The N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources said Wednesday that the park in Surry County reopened even as mop-up efforts continue. The principal overlook at Little Pinnacle, the climbing area and some trails remain off-limits to visitors and some damaged trees near the mountain's summit are being removed.
