McIntyre only Democrat to sign on to tea party-backed balanced budget amendment

The proposed amendment is an opportunity for Democrats to cast a tough-on-spending vote. Sixteen House Democrats have signed on to the version that passed the House in 1995. So far, Rep. Mike McIntyre of North Carolina is the only Democrat to sign on to the tea party-backed version requiring two-thirds supermajorities in the House and Senate to raise taxes.

C.J. Melvin arrested for filing false report

Former East Bladen basketball standout C.J. Melvin has been charged with filing a false police report in Greenville. Melvin is about to enter her freshman season at East Carolina University.

McIntyre: Focus should be local, not on Washington in wake of credit downgrade

We caught up with Rep. Mike McIntyre today in Brunswick Ccounty and asked him for his thoughts about Standard & Poor's downgrade of America's credit rating. The congressman says southeastern North Carolina cannot focus on the debate in Washington, but rather should focus our attention here locally to boost our own economy.

Rain helps as Pender Co. fire lingers into third month

videoThe Juniper Road Fire in Pender County is close to being 100 percent contained. The NC Forest Service just passed command of the fire to the local office in Whiteville; a move made possible by improved containment and fewer crews fighting the fire.
