The numbers for unemployment in North Carolina for December came out earlier this week. Brunswick County had the biggest jump in our area from November, so we decided to put a face to the statistics.

Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction in a break-in at the BEMC Hickman's Crossing substation in Calabash. Whoever broke in vandalized the substation, which resulted in a power outage. About 3,600 co-op members in the Calabash area were without power from 11:30 p.m. Tuesday to 12:20 a.m. Wednesday as a result.
