We're the only local news outlet following allegations of corruption and misconduct within the Leland Police Department. Today, a town leader came forward to talk about what she thinks needs to be done. Leland Town Councilwoman Martha Currie wants Mayor Futch to call a special meeting to discuss hiring a private investigator to look into the allegations but says Futch won't pull the trigger on the meeting. After confirming with multiple sources that Chief Tim Jayne took his station vehicle to Myrtle Beach last year for a bachelor party, struck an officer in the gut while at the party, has ordered officers to work on his home and on neighbors' homes, along with reporting about a Leland cop shooting fellow officer Sherry Lewis between the legs at least 12 times with simulation ammunition during a training exercise, we reached out to David to see how his office was handling the allegations. Brunswick County District Attorney Jon David told us he has asked the Attorney General to appoint another attorney to be the point person for anyone who wants to come forward with allegations against the town or the police department, but the AG's office says that's not exactly the case. The South Carolina Gamecocks made a formal offer to former West Brunswick Trojan Alfy Hill earlier this week. The former Trojan defensive lineman and linebacker won't be eligible to play division one football until 2013 though after stops at Alabama, East Carolina, Itawamba CC and Los Angeles Valley CC where Hill currently plays.
