Jury finds Brunswick Co. man not guilty of assault on deputies

video Back in 2007 Brunswick County Sheriff's deputies shot a man, who was also charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer. George Cooper says he never pointed a gun at the officers much less fired it, and today a jury at the Brunswick County Courthouse agreed with him.

Oak Island man convicted of helping Dick's VP get kickbacks

A federal jury in Utica has convicted a former lawyer for Dick's Sporting Goods of money-laundering and fraud in connection with the establishment of 22 new stores across the country. Benjamin Viloski, 62, of Oak Island, N.C., was convicted Friday of nine counts of fraud, money-laundering and making false statements.

Anti-violence rally hopes to promote peace and positivity

video A recent rise in violence around our area motivated a local organization to try and "Stop the Violence." The "Nothing Other than the Truth” Foundation rallied together Saturday to try and change negative attitudes and mindsets.

New hospital opens in Brunswick County

video Sunday morning was the opening of the new Brunswick Novant Medical Center off of Highway 17 at 7 a.m. 24 patients began being transported from the old Brunswick Community Hospital to the new state of the art facility.

New UNC interim football coach credits Leland resident for motivation

video Everett Withers was introduced as the interim head football coach at the University of North Carolina on Friday. At the news conference it took less than 30 seconds for Withers to credit a man who lives in Brunswick County. In fact Withers mentioned Mel Foels four times before he mentioned anyone else.

The state Division of Marine Fisheries today lifted a water quality swimming advisory for a sound-side swimming area in Brunswick County.

Beach Water Quality Swimming Advisory issued for sound-side site in Brunswick County

An advisory against swimming was posted today at a sound-side site in Brunswick County, where state officials found bacteria levels in the water that exceed the state and Environmental Protection Agency's recreational water quality standards.
