Central Middle School captured the Columbus County middle school football championship on Tuesday night. Central and Hallsboro were tied at halftime, but Central knocked off the defending champs with an impressive second half.

The controversy surrounding R.C. Soles continues as the former state senator once again faces criminal charges. Soles is accused of beating a man on his property back in September. Today he was in court, but after court, Jernigan said he wants to drop the charges against Soles.

The Columbus County mother who drove her daughter to a parking lot brawl with another teen has pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor. WWAY was the only media outlet in the courtroom when Aneshia Cartret entered her plea this afternoon.

Jon David, who is responsible for cases in Brunswick, Columbus and Bladen Counties was featured in this week's edition of "North Carolina Lawyers Weekly." A few strong comments by Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten in that story have stirred up some controversy. Today, though, Batten said some of those comments were taken out of context.

Highway Patrol says Jessica Nealey died yesterday from injuries suffered in a car crash Monday night. Troopers say Nealey's car ran into a tree off of State Road 1141 east of Tabor City.

The Wilmington Sharks will have a home at Buck Hardee Field through the 2016 baseball season. There's an option for five more years after that. The Sharks also have a new head coach. In fact he's a native of Columbus County.

It is his last week in the District Attorney's Office. Soon Assistant DA Fred Gore will trade his suit and tie for fatigues. Gore is a captain in the National Guard. Next month he heads to training, and by the end of the year gore will ship out to Kuwait for 10 to 12 months.
