Sherri Loika says her son was sodomized in a restroom at Tabor City Elementary School by a five-year-old classmate. She found out the night it happened after his teacher called.

Columbus Co. based Freedman Farms fined $1.5 million, President sent to jail

Freedman Farms Inc. was sentenced in federal court to five years probation and ordered to pay $1.5 million in fines, restitution, and community service payments for violating the Clean Water Act when they discharged hog waste into a stream that leads to the Waccamaw River

Soles upgraded to good condition

Former state Sen. R.C. Soles is listed in good condition at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. Soles underwent heart bypass surgery Friday, according to his Tabor City law firm.

High-speed Internet finally available in Columbus County

Whiteville store has two big dollar lottery tickets in six months

For the second time in six months, the same store in the small town of Whiteville has sold a big-winning lottery ticket. Hill’s Food Store on JK Boulevard sold the ticket that matched four white balls and the Mega Ball in Friday’s drawing. Because it was a $2 Megaplier ticket and the Megaplier was two, it is worth $20,000.
