Adoption group gets new meeting room through donation

"We moved into this office in April then we were given a huge gift in June when we connected with Paysage and they donated all of this beautiful furniture for our birth mothers support group space," Assistant Director for Children at Heart, Erica Willock, said.

Unemployment climbs again in Wilmington area

After a small drop in July, unemployment is up again in the Wilmington metro area. The region's unemployment rate climbed to 10.5 percent in August. That's up from 10.2 percent in July after a drop from 10.4 percent in June. The Employment Security Commission says 18,744 are unemployed in our area.

'One Tree Hill' cast, fans mark milestone

It was eight years ago tonight that the show debuted on what was then The WB. Since then 174 episodes have aired of the teen drama turned young adult drama (now on The CW) set in the fictional town of Tree Hill, NC.

Battleship named Attraction of the Year

Seven decades after entering World War II, the Battleship North Carolina has earned another honor. Last night the North Carolina Travel Industry Association honored the Battleship as its 2011 Attraction of the Year.

Fundraiser for cancer fight honors late judge

Pancreatic cancer took the life New Hanover County judge and veteran John Carroll in May. Monday would have been his birthday.

New Hanover Public Library will display “Freedom, Sacrifice, Memory” Civil War photo exhibit in October

The involvement of Confederate soldiers, African Americans and women is depicted in the Freedom, Sacrifice, Memory: Civil War Sesquicentennial Photography Exhibit, which will visit the New Hanover Public Library Oct. 1-29. The exhibit will educate and illustrate on a difficult period in history that the nation moved beyond.

George Bryan sets Wolfpack tight end record

George Bryan made Wolfpack history on Thursday night against the Cincinnati Bearcats. The former New Hanover Wildcat became the all-time receptions leader for NC State tight ends.
