Pender County will open two vegetative debris collection sites on Monday for residents to bring Hurricane Irene storm vegetative debris for disposal. Only vegetative debris will be collected at these sites. The sites will be open for debris disposal through Sunday, September 25, at which time material will no longer be accepted.

The Joint Legislative Committee's work is intended to deal with review of local (county and municipal) bond issues. Any bond over $1 million, for anything other than schools, will be reviewed by the JLC from a fiscal perspective to determine the viability of the bond proposal. Rep. Justice's prior service as a Pender County Commissioner is an important reason she was chosen to chair this committee.

Week number three of the high school football season is complete. All four high schools in Columbus County lost. All four high schools in New Hanover County won. Laney remains undefeated. Hoggard remains undefeated. Ashley gets their first win while New Hanover knocks off Wallace-Rose Hill. The Bulldog loss snaps a 30 game winning streak. It was the longest active streak in the state until Friday.
