A man who reportedly fired shots inside his Pender County house about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, was critically injured when he wrecked his motorcycle in an attempt to escape police , officials said.

The Pender County Sheriff’s office says the man pictured walked into La Tienda Esmeralda store on Highway 117 south in Rocky Point, around 5 pm Monday, pulled out a handgun and robbed the store.
He is described as a Hispanic male, 5’ 8" , muscular build, wearing a white jacket and a hat with ear flaps.

In August, the Pender County Sheriffs Office arrested and charged 41-year-old Harvey Darrell Porter with six counts of second-degree exploitation of a minor after child pornography was found on his computer.

Oyster season only opened a few weeks ago, but this past weekend the state's Marine Fisheries Division put a halt to harvesting in New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick Counties. Bill Moller, owner of Natures Way Farm and Seafood in Hampstead, says it has definitely hurt business.

A passenger involved in a fatal car accident in Pender County earlier this month is now charged with murder. Investigators say Lance Powers grabbed the steering wheel of the car, forcing it into oncoming traffic. The accident killed one woman and injured four other people.
