Self-employed for years, Thomas also has a military background. He served in the Navy. Thomas runs with the slogan, "Putting North Carolina back to work." He says job creation is his top priority after learning about Caterpillar and Continental Tire moving their manufacturing facilities to other states. Thomas has never held political office before, but says his volunteerism in Pender County makes him an excellent candidate. Candidate Interview: Jeff HowellRepublican Jeff Howell isn't shy about having little experience in the political arena; however, he says his military career coupled with owning a business is experience enough to work for the people. Throughout the years he's lived in Pender County, Howell has met residents, listened to their concerns and volunteered his time at schools and with community programs. Candidate Interview: Chris MillisChris Millis is a conservative candidate for North Carolina House District 16. Calling himself a "warrior of the conservative cause," Millis is calling for education reform and a lower tax burden for citizens. Millis grew up in Pender County, graduated from North Carolina State University, then returned to Hampstead to begin a career as a Civil Engineer. He says his professional background and personal life make him an ideal candidate to work for the people. Chris and his wife, Tonya, have a son Luke, and are eager for the arrival of a baby girl this summer.
