Soldier pleads guilty to stealing $400K in fuel

Prosecutors say a Fort Bragg soldier has pleaded guilty to his part in a scheme to steal more than $400,000 worth of fuel from a base in Afghanistan. Authorities said in a news release that 25-year-old Alexander Swim would escort a foreign driver to the fuel depot at Forward Operating Base Sharana, let him fill up a tanker with American fuel and drive off. Drugmaker provides experimental drug for Ebola use

A North Carolina drugmaker says it is providing an experimental antiviral drug for patients with Ebola, an emergency step authorized by the Food and Drug Administration. Chimerix Inc. says physicians sought federal permission to use company's drug, called brincidofovir, which is in late-stage testing for other types of viruses. Drug companies announce NC expansions, new jobs

Two pharmaceutical companies already in North Carolina say adding several hundred jobs in the state through the rest of the decade. Gov. Pat McCrory announced Friday a business unit of DPx Holdings will create 488 more jobs at its Greenville location by the end of 2019 as part of a $159 million capital investment.
