US House vote helps Carolina Beach renourishment project

The US House of Representatives has unanimously passed legislation authored by Rep. Mike McIntyre to stop the US Army Corps of Engineers Corps from terminating the Carolina Beach renourishment project. The legislation was attached to the Corps budget bill and passed with unanimous support, according to McIntyre's office.

WWII vet gets back lost service medals

A 90-year-old veteran finally has back his service medals earned in World War II. Rep. Mike McIntyre worked with the national personnel records center and to replace the lost medals for Leroy Pierson of Bladen County.

That's good news for many elected leaders of beach towns in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender Counties. They say beach renourishment and dredging are critical to both the local and regional economy.
