A proposed cement manufacturing plant near Wilmington received an air quality permit today with strict limits for mercury and other air pollutants. The air permit is the first in a series of environmental permits that Carolinas-Titan Cement Co. would need for the facility in northern New Hanover County.

A former Marine accused of killing his ex-wife is in jail under $1 million bond. New Hanover County Sheriff's deputies arrested 48-year-old Keith Waters last night for the murder of his wife Kay at their home on Hanover Avenue in Castle Hayne.

One of the more interesting elections that happened in New Hanover County was in Castle Hayne. Residents went to the polls to decide whether they would become a town, and the answer was a bit one sided.

Monday night Mike Manzari, 21, left his house in Castle Hayne for the last time. State troopers say it was around 7 p.m. when a man driving northbound hit Manzari in the 4500 block of North College Road near the Midway Kwik Stop. Manzari died at the scene.

This afternoon the Senate signed off on a final change to the bill to give Castle Hayne residents the right to vote to incorporate. Both the House and Senate had unanimously passed the bill.
