After a little more than seven weeks at home, the Coast Guard Cutter Diligence is leaving port Friday.
They will conduct homeland security operations, search and rescue, and will also work to keep immigrants and narcotics from coming into the country.

They're usually busy protecting the waterways in our area. Today they traded in their sea legs for tool belts. Members of the Coast Guard's Marine Safety Unit Wilmington helped build a new home for Habitat for Humanity on Prices Lane in Wilmington.

The Coast Guard cutter Diligence now has a better-explained place in Wilmington's history.
Today the commander of the Diligence helped unveil a new interpretive panel at the Cape Fear Museum that provides information about the Dil I.
