The battle over plans for a ballpark in Wilmington continue to heat up. Yesterday, a group against using tax money to build a stadium in the Port City submitted a petition with about 4,000 signatures. If the Board of Elections verifies enough of the signatures, the City Council would have to accept the language of the petition as an ordinance or put it up for a public vote.

The USA Collegiate National Team will make a stop in Wilmington in June. Team USA will play the Wilmington Sharks at Buck Hardee Field.

The Wilmington Sharks 2012 summer league baseball schedule is out. The Sharks also want to spread the word about the their Toys for Tots program. The team is teaming up with the US Marine Corps in their annual toy drive.

Final attendance numbers are in for the Wilmington Sharks summer league baseball squad. The Sharks finished in the top 15 nationally among all the summer baseball teams.

The Edenton Steamers are considered to be one of the premier summer league baseball teams in the nation. On Wednesday the Steamers ended the season for the Wilmington Sharks in the second round of the CPL playoffs.

The Wilmington Sharks survived a must win game on Tuesday night in Edenton. The playoff game turned out to be a home run derby, but the Sharks outslugged the Steamers to keep the Sharks season alive.

The Wilmington Sharks will need to win two consecutive games on the road against Edenton in order to continue the season. The Sharks did it last week against Fayetteville. Can the Sharks do it again?

In a must win game the Wilmington Sharks knocked off the Fayetteville Swampdogs on Saturday night in a first round Coastal Plain League baseball playoff game. This is the Sharks first playoff appearance since 2003. They're certainly making the best of it as they advance to round two at home on Monday.
