Friends and family are still mourning the loss of Roger Mock Sr. The church-going 67-year-old was found dead in his Hampstead home last Wednesday. Mock Sr. was a founding member of New Life Christian Center in Holly Ridge. Saturday, the church found joy in the midst of sadness as they broke ground for a new building. Full story...

We're the only local news outlet following allegations of corruption and misconduct within the Leland Police Department. Today, a town leader came forward to talk about what she thinks needs to be done. Leland Town Councilwoman Martha Currie wants Mayor Futch to call a special meeting to discuss hiring a private investigator to look into the allegations but says Futch won't pull the trigger on the meeting. After confirming with multiple sources that Chief Tim Jayne took his station vehicle to Myrtle Beach last year for a bachelor party, struck an officer in the gut while at the party, has ordered officers to work on his home and on neighbors' homes, along with reporting about a Leland cop shooting fellow officer Sherry Lewis between the legs at least 12 times with simulation ammunition during a training exercise, we reached out to David to see how his office was handling the allegations. The New Hanover county sheriff's office is hoping some new technology will help them with underwater searches. Thursday, sheriff's deputies were learning how to operate the department's new remotely operated vehicle. In situations not conducive for divers, the machine will help deputies with search below the water's surface. The department acquired the remotely operated vehicle through a port security grant. It's equipped with all the latest technology from sonar to a GPS. Full story...
