Bald Head Island under boil water notice, power back on

The power was restored to the island around 11 a.m. Currently the public water system is turned off as a result of the prolonged power failure earlier this morning. This was done to reduce the risk of home sewer systems spilling sewage onto the ground. We plan to turn the water system back on this afternoon, provided no other issues arise.

CFPUA crews and facilities performance

There are no current overflows or failures at any CFPUA facilities. Crews worked diligently through the storm to prevent events.

Four County EMC Reports Power Outages Due to Hurricane Irene

Four County Electric Membership Corporation is reporting approximately 10,000 customers without power as of 11:00 a.m. this morning as high winds have caused scattered outages throughout the entire system.

Hurricane Irene has left thousands of Cape Fear residents without power. If a power outage is 2 hours or less, you need not be concerned about losing your perishable foods. For prolonged power outages, though, there are steps you can take to minimize food loss and to keep all members of your household as comfortable as possible.
