NC State sending crafted coin to space aboard Orion craft

A titanium alloy coin that North Carolina State University engineers assembled from a 3-D printer is flying into space. The coin displaying the NC State Bell Tower is slated to be aboard an unmanned test flight of the Orion spacecraft launching from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station today.

UNC-CH pharmacy school receives $100 million gift

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has received $100 million for its pharmacy school, which is the largest individual gift in the school's history and among the top 10 donations to a college nationally in 2014. UNC announced the gift from Fred Eshelman on Wednesday. Eshelman graduated from UNC in 1972 and is the founder and former chief executive officer of Pharmaceutical Product Development. UNC-Chapel Hill's previous largest gift was $50 million.

NC governor enters immigration order lawsuit

Gov. Pat McCrory says he joined a lawsuit brought by the Texas attorney general challenging President Barack Obama's executive order last month on immigration because the president exceeded his powers laid out in the U.S. Constitution. McCrory made North Carolina one of the 17 states involved in the lawsuit filed Wednesday in federal court over Obama's order designed to keep as many as five million people living illegally in the United States from being deported.
