The first round of the soccer playoffs concluded on Wednesday night all around the state. The majority of our local squads won. Winners advance to the second round of the state playoffs later this week. Plus, we checked in with former UNCW Seahawk basketball standout Adam Smith on Wednesday. Two-time champion Purdue shot a blistering 5-under-par 283 and South Carolina's Nanna Madsen soared to the top of the individual leaderboard with a 6-under 66 as the opening day of the 13th Landfall Tradition drew to a close Friday at the Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye Course. Nationally ranked East Carolina got off to an impressive start against Connecticut on Thursday night, but the Pirates had to hold on for a 31-21 victory. The football game was actually tied going into the 4th quarter. Former New Hanover Wildcat football standout Trevon Brown hurt his knee in the first half. Full story...
