video The Pender County Sheriff's Department fired Capt. Mark Sloan after being arrested Tuesday night for soliciting a prostitute and crimes against nature. Sloan says he could not talk about the situation in detail but did say that he had "good intentions" and it was "not sex."

Many of the board members have resigned in protest over personality conflicts. Now we're finding out just how dysfunctional the department has been the last 18 months.

Topsail High principal reinstated

Administrators in Pender County have pulled a quick about face with a school principal. The Pender County Board of Education announced today it has reinstated Marcus Skipper as principal of Topsail High School effective immediately.

Crops in Pender County suffering because of drought conditions

With the severe drought in southeastern North Carolina, farmers are getting hit pretty hard. Above normal temperatures and rainfall deficits in the area mean bad news for local crops. According to, 17 coastal counties are currently experiencing a severe drought.

Rodney Orr named Trask basketball coach

Rodney Orr has been named the boys basketball coach at Trask High School. After two seasons as Gary Battle's assistant at Pender, Orrr is now a head coach again. Previously he served as the Topsail boys basketball head coach.
