WPD warns of phone scams

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington police say they've received several reports of phone scams the last couple of weeks.

The scams consist of a phone call to residents notifying them that their relative is in some type of legal trouble and needs money sent quickly to help them. The caller request they send the money through a wire transfer.

WPD suggests you verify the information by contacting the relative in question or other relatives to confirm the information is accurate.
