WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Get your cake stand and piping bag ready, and put your diet on hold. The Azalea Festival Cake Challenge is on its way.
More than 1,000 people came to the event last year, which featured about 25 different cakes. They were all decorated to represent different themes at the Azalea Festival.
Cake Challenge chair Dana McKoy says see the creativity of the cake bakers makes the event worthwhile.
"Last year, we had cakes that looked like Azelea Belles, or we had some that looked like floats, or we even had one that looked like the circus," McKoy said. "So it's really just wide open, and to me that's the most exciting part and for the public who come buy a ticket to see the cakes. You never know what you're going to see."
