Peace Corps makes Wilmington native 50th anniversary cover girl

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Peace Corps is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and a Wilmington native is its cover girl.

On the 2011 Peace Corps commemorative poster, Caitrin Martin, a Laney and UNCW grad, is featured with a little boy. Martin served in the Corps in Senegal from 2007 to 2009.

Her dad Marc says Caitrin went above and beyond during her time in the Peace Corps. He says she has always been the type to help others.

"She's always been the type to reach out and help others," Marc Martin said. "She's worked with Habitat for Humanity and other types of volunteer projects and she's just always there to help somebody in need. To her, everybody's a brother or a sister."

Martin says his daughter is not one to seek the spotlight. He says she told him she thinks her picture was chosen to be featured because she was just at the right place at the right time.
