Disabled anglers aim for fresh catch

KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- If you were headed out to Kure Beach for some fishing today, you might have found it a bit crowded on the pier. Folks were up bright and early for the 13th Annual Cape Fear Disabled Sportsman Fishing Tournament.

The event is a chance for disabled people to spend a day outside trying to catch the big one. It's put on by the Get 'Em On Live Bait Club, which provides free bait, tackle, and food for all disabled participants.

"It's great for the people who are here, but it's also great for those who help," said Mike Harrison with the club. "If you ever do this one time, you'll always want to come back."

The tournament usually brings in a crowd of more than 300 participants.

For all you anglers out there, we're told that the flounder is really coming in with the warmer water.
