WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- One mom right here in Wilmington is making a world of difference across the planet. And she is getting recognized by some pretty important people.
Rachel Fox is part of "ONE Mom," a division of the advocacy organization ONE founded by U2 frontman Bono. Fox has been working to spread the word about needs of people around the globe, but especially in Africa.
"It's a little bit of money doing a whole lot of good," Fox said.
Fox is just one mom, and now people across the world know she is working toward making a difference, starting right here in Wilmington. She and other "ONE Moms" were even featured Friday on ABC's World News with Diane Sawyer as the Persons of the Week.
"The fact that ABC World News and Good Morning America featured us as Persons of the Week was really incredible, because I feel very humbled and very honored to be giving a voice to the world's poorest and the people that I met in Africa," Fox said. "That I'm getting the opportunity to really spread the word and let people know how they can get involved."
The "ONE Moms" took their mission across the Atlantic to Africa and blogged about the whole trip.
Fox says her goal is simple: ask for concern, not money for some of the largest problems facing the planet today and gain other people's interest in doing the same. She says it has been a wonderful experience.
She can't believe she has been given the opportunity to spread the word on the world's stage.
"For me personally, it took me back to being there; being in Africa with that group of moms and meeting the people we met and seeing the programs that we saw, was a very emotional, connecting experience," Fox said. "So seeing it friday night, I instantly was moved to tears."
Fox says her mission is not over. Now she is working on getting others on board.
