Communities in School gala benefits students

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Making a difference in the life of a child. That's what you can do during the Communities in Schools 10th Annual Benefit Gala for Children.

It's the biggest fundraiser of the year for the organization. There will be a live auction, silent auction, a band and plenty of food. Fourteen restaurants are taking part to give folks a little taste of Brunswick County.

All the proceeds helps communities in schools provide the tools students need to excel.

"We go into the schools with volunteers, we mentor, we have teen court, peer court, anything we can do to make a child succeed," CIS's Joan Madsen said. "That's our main aim, to help a child succeed in life, stay in school and succeed in life."

The gala is October 27 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center in Sunset Beach. Tickets are $100 per person. You can call (910) 457-3494 for more information.

Good idea, but

This is a terrific idea but one thing concerns me. If you are trying to raise money for such an important cause, why not make it affordable for most people? In this day of a weak economy and many out of work, it seems that $100.00 per person is kind of steep. Why not a lower price so that you could get more people to come?

Or is it your intention to have those "with money" be the ones able to come and enjoy. I can probably say without a doubt it is the "ordinary Joe" that probably contributes more to your thrift shop and other areas than those "in the money". Just saying.
