Group donates nearly 2K backpacks to needy NC kids

PINEHURST, NC (AP) - The charity Feed the Children is loading up nearly 2,000 backpacks for some of North Carolina's neediest kids.

The group plans to distribute the packs Friday in Pinehurst at the annual North Carolina School Social Workers Association conference. The backpacks, full of supplies, will be distributed to homeless children throughout the state.

The backpacks will include school supplies, non-perishable food, children's books and items like toothpaste, deodorant and combs.

The delivery is part of a partnership with Staples during which Feed the Children hopes to distribute around 150,000 backpacks throughout the current school year.
