WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Coast Guard Cutter Diligence is back home. After a 45-day deployment, the Diligence docked back in Wilmington this morning.
The cutter was in the Caribbean Sea for important drills and training over the holidays, so family members say this tour was rough. Family and friends waited patiently at the dock for their loved ones to get home after a long couple of months.
"These are shorter deployments that he's on now. They're 45 days out, but it can be a long 45 days when they're way out to sea. A lot can happen," said Diane Sharp, whose son serves on the Diligence. "So we heard this trip was a little more tumultuous than some. The ship was listing quite a bit, so we prayed a lot for him, and we're so glad he's home!"
The Diligence returned early to the Port City because the ship needs repairs. It will be docked in Wilmington until March when it will head back out for another mission.
